Lung cancer patient advocates are beginning to make their voices heard and gain acceptance in the medical world. For the first time ever, patient advocates will be speaking from the stage at the World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC), the largest meeting dedicated to lung cancer anywhere. On February 5, 2015, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a final national coverage determination that provides Medicare coverage of screening for lung cancer with low dose computed tomography (LDCT) for high risk patients. CMS will cover lung cancer screening with LDCT once per year for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries who meet certain criteria.
