Welcome to the official blog of Lung Cancer Social Media (#LCSM)!
Founded on Twitter, the #LCSM community fosters social media collaboration among lung cancer patients, caregivers, family members, advocates, healthcare providers, researchers and charities. Its focus is to use social media in an innovative manner to educate, develop public support, end the stigma, and facilitate successful treatments for the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide.
The first #LCSM tweetchat on Thursday, July 25, 2013, drew 72 active participants and numerous lurkers (interested individuals who followed the conversation, but didn’t actively participate). An introduction to #LCSM tweetchats as well as links to past transcripts are available on this site’s pages.
The objective of this blog is to support the Twitter platform of #LCSM. We hope to use the power of the crowd to transform the treatment of lung cancer and eventually eradicate the disease. Please feel free to suggest chat topics and unmet needs in the lung cancer community.
#LCSM is about sharing information within the lung cancer community. We hope to serve as a neutral voice. In order to maintain a neutral voice, we strive to keep #LCSM free of endorsements and advertisements.
Thanks to the Breast Cancer Social Media (#BCSM) community and other healthcare social media groups that boldly went before and showed us the way.

Hi Tanya,
By definition, lung cancer begins in the lungs. Cancer that begins elsewhere and then spreads to the lungs is not lung cancer. Colon cancer that has spread to the lungs is still considered colon cancer; it’s just called metastatic colon cancer. Its treatment is different than treatment for lung cancer.
The LCSM community welcomes anyone who wants to learn about lung cancer, support those dealing with the disease, and/or help find effective treatments.
My question is are you referring to lung cancer or does one with lung cancer mets also become part of the community? I am a little unclear since there are so many ways for lung cancer to be diagnosed even when its not lung cancer directly but that is the affected organ if that makes any sense?
